About Me
I've been working with mixed media for the past 15 years. Every sample you see in the gallery is done by hand and is an original work of art. My work is two-fold: I draw what I envision and then carve it out of paper. I am a member of the Cambridge Art Association. Some of my work resides in private collections from Duxbury, MA to Doha, Qatar.
After I had my children, I combined my passion for art and education, seeking and embracing it as a tool in order to communicate with them when they were very young. From there, we formed a connection, as they saw me illustrate simple stories for them. As they were stretching their vocabulary and their language, I was stretching my artistic skill. I began by illustrating text and later encouraged them to create stories to describe my art. My work has evolved from depicting stories to a broader range of more complex subjects, such as nature, portraits, and still life.
Having majored in Art History while studying at Wellesley College, I spent a semester in Florence, studying the Italian Masters of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. While working at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, my team launched a program that allowed blind people to enjoy art, by using alternative senses. Later, through my work with new immigrants at the Red Cross, I saw the power of teaching as another way to connect with people, eventually leading me to pursue a graduate degree in Education at Harvard.
